In my innocent days before having children of my own, I imagined I would make their Halloween costumes every year. Certainly, my children would NEVER wear a store-bought costume! Oh, no, no! Not MY kids! After all, I'm crafty! Fast forward to my daughter's first Halloween. She was our little monkey so when I saw that cute padded monkey suit on the rack at Target, how could I resist? It even came with a banana! That same year I purchased a few fairy dresses on clearance for $5 each. One of them became her Halloween costume the next year (she was the cutest Pumpkin Fairy ever!). And the following year we had a newborn so I was just happy I was able to come up with a cute idea and had no intentions of crafting costumes myself (my girl was the cutest pink bunny, once again purchased from Target, and the babe was a carrot swaddled in an orange blanket. It was the cutest darn thing ever.) This year our girl saw a bumblebee costume on the rack and it was too darn cute to resist, even though I swore this would be the year I would make a costume myself. My spirits were raised by the thought of making the boy a matching costume (I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to coordinate their costumes so I want to take advantage of it as long as I can). After much deliberation, I decided upon a honey bear to go along with my little bumble bee. Google search after google search failed me so I came up with this idea all on my own. I found solid brown knit pants, ironed letters spelling out the word "HONEY" on a brown onesie turned inside out (I couldn't find a plain one), covered a party hat with yellow construction paper and hot glued on some big brown pom poms. The best part has to be the little tail I sewed on the pants! I hope I'm able to get at least one picture of my little honey bear wearing his hat on Halloween! But at least now I can say that I made at least one of his Halloween costumes.
